What the app and these tools do with your data.

Privacy Policy

Effective: 2026-11-02 ยท r2b89

This policy covers Gradient, the indoor cycling app for Android and iPhone ("the app"), and the web tools on this site: the route builder, the workout builder and the Rides page ("the tools").

In short: the app keeps everything on your phone and has no internet access. The workout builder and the Rides page keep everything in your browser. Only the route builder talks to outside services (maps, road routing, elevations, place search), and only with what it needs to draw your route. The developer runs no servers and receives none of your data, except feedback you choose to send through the feedback form.

The app

Gradient reads your smart trainer, power meter, cadence sensor and heart rate monitor, sets the trainer's resistance for workouts and routes, and records your rides. On your phone it keeps:

The app has no internet access, so none of this can leave your phone through it. You can copy the ride files to other apps or services yourself (for example with a file manager). Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, so save the ride files elsewhere first if you want to keep them. Your phone may include the app's data in its own backup, under your Google or Apple account, as it does for other apps.

Bluetooth is used only to connect to your fitness sensors and trainer. The app doesn't use Bluetooth to find your location (on Android it's declared as never used for location) and doesn't collect information about other devices nearby beyond showing fitness sensors' names in its sensor list.

The web tools

The tools run in your browser. What you make in them (routes, workouts, the rides you open) is kept in your browser's own storage on your computer (localStorage, IndexedDB), and the files you export are saved where you choose. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes it.

Service What it receives Why
OpenStreetMap and OpenTopoMap the map tiles of the area you look at the map
BRouter your waypoints' coordinates the roads between them
Open-Meteo coordinates along your route their elevation
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) the place names you search for finding them on the map
cdnjs (Cloudflare) a request for the map library loading the page

A route is a place you choose to ride virtually; the route builder doesn't ask for or use your own location.

Feedback form

The feedback page shows a form hosted by Google Forms. It's optional, and only what you type into it is sent: your answers go to Google, under Google's privacy policy, and from there to the developer, who uses them only to improve Gradient. The email field is optional; if you fill it in, it's used only to reply to your feedback. To have your answers deleted, ask using the same form.

What neither does

Health information

Heart rate and power are fitness data. Gradient is not a medical device and doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Heart rate training targets are estimates; ride within your limits.

Children

The app and the tools aren't directed at children under 13.
